Destiny Austine Omon, an award-winning Nigerian Filmmaker and Producer, recently expressed his disappointment with the outcome of the 66th Grammys.
Omon stated that Nigerian superstar Davido should have won the award for the Best African Music Performance.
Davido received three nominations at the 2024 Grammys in various categories including Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Music Album, and Best African Music Performance.
Despite the multiple nominations, Davido did not win any of the awards, with South Africa’s Tyla taking home the Best African Music Performance accolade for her hit song ‘Water’.
In an interview on Onua Showbiz, Omon raised concerns about the fairness of the selection process, claiming that there was an orchestrated agenda to deny Davido the coveted award.
He mentioned that the judges did not even know the song ‘Water’ by Tyla and questioned the credibility of the Grammys, suggesting that it can be manipulated based on personal connections.
He claimed that Davido’s snub at the Grammys was a deliberate attempt to undermine the efforts of Nigerian musicians and maintain control over the music space.
