At the age of 92, David Frank Sobey, a former president and CEO of Sobeys Inc., passed away.

At the time of his passing, Sobey was C.M., the emeritus chair of Sobeys Inc. The Sobeys board of directors made the notification of his passing.

From modest family beginnings in the 1800s, the Canadian business with its main office in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, now generates around $31.5 billion in yearly sales and has $16.5 billion in assets.

About 131,000 people are employed by Sobeys’ parent business, Empire business Limited, through its subsidiaries, franchisees, and affiliates.

David was a remarkable merchant, grocer, and businessman who played a key role in the amazing expansion of Sobeys from his father’s local grocery shop into a national chain.
