David Holford was a former Barbados and West Indies cricketer who died on Monday 30, May, 2022.

He was a former Barbados captain who led the country’s cricket team to five Shell Shield wins in the 1970s.

He died at the age of 82.

Holford had a successful career as an allrounder after graduating from Harrison College and joining the Spartan Club. In the Shell Shield, he became the first player to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets.

Between 1966 and 1977, he played in 24 Test matches for the West Indies, accumulating 768 runs and capturing 51 wickets. His only century came at Lords in 1966, when he bowled an unbroken 105 in a match-saving partnership with cousin Garry Sobers (now National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers).
