Those who followed his very active Twitter account, which he’d maintained tweeting on as recently as Wednesday, were taken aback by his death. Crosby’s final tweet the day before he died was a typically witty remark about heaven: “I heard the place is overrated… foggy.”

Graham Nash, Crosby’s former CSNY bandmate who had grown distant from him after their group disbanded, paid tribute to the singer on social media. I recently learned of my buddy David Crosby’s passing, and it fills me with deep and profound sadness,” Nash wrote.

The music David and I made together, the sound we developed with one another, and our close friendship over all these many years have always mattered more to us than anything else. I realize that people often emphasize how turbulent our relationship has been at times.
