Goldberg died unexpectedly on May 1, 2015, while vacationing with Sandberg in a luxury beach-front property near the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in Punta Mita, Mexico; he was declared dead at a hospital in Nuevo Vallarta.

Goldberg died after falling off a treadmill while exercising at a gym and suffering brain injuries and blood loss.

Sandberg later stated that her husband died as a result of an arrhythmia induced by untreated coronary artery disease, not from a treadmill fall.

David Bruce Goldberg was born on October 2, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

His mother, Paula Goldberg, is the Pacer Center’s co-founder and executive director, and his father, Melvin Bert Goldberg lived from 1942 to 1998 and was an assistant dean and professor at William Mitchell College of Law.
