David John Courtney, an English self-described mobster who lived from 17 February 1959 to 22 October 2023, was also a writer and actor.
Courtney was accused of inflating and creating his criminal history and position in the underworld by author Bernard O’Mahoney and Frankie Fraser, a former member of the Richardson Gang; however, Courtney denied lying about his past.

In December 2017, Dave Courtney, a British Labour Party politician and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Cannock Chase, suffered a heart attack while at home. He was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery and was placed in an induced coma. He made a full recovery and was released from hospital in January 2018.
Courtney has spoken about his experience of the heart attack and how it has changed his outlook on life.
He has said that he is now more grateful for his health and his family and that he is more determined to enjoy life. He has also called for more to be done to raise awareness of heart disease and to support people who have suffered heart attacks.
