Miles was raised in East St. Louis, Illinois, and was educated there at East St. Louis Senior High School and East St. Louis Lincoln High School.
He was born in Belleville, Illinois. Miles and fellow star recruit Omar Cook signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball team before Miles announced his intention to join the 2000 NBA Draft.
Miles’ pledge definitely aided in securing Cook and the other incoming freshmen from the recruiting class, according to Red Storm head coach Mike Jarvis.
The Los Angeles Clippers chose Miles with the third overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft, which at the time was the highest selection of a player taken straight out of high school.
