Daria Kasatkina began playing tennis when she was six years old, at the suggestion of her elder brother. As a junior, she won the European 16s title and one junior Grand Slam singles title at the 2014 French Open.

Kasatkina rose fast through the professional ranks, reaching No. 32 in the world at the age of 18 and winning her first WTA championship as a youngster at the Charleston Open. She gained popularity in 2018 after being runner-up to fellow up-and-coming star Naomi Osaka at the Premier Mandatory Indian Wells Open, in a match widely seen as defining a new era of women’s tennis.
Kasatkina struggled in 2019 after three great seasons on the WTA Tour, sliding to the bottom half of the top 100. However, she had a comeback in 2021, winning two championships and returning to the top 30.
