Daria Kasatkina began playing tennis when she was six years old, at the suggestion of her elder brother. As a junior, she won the European 16s title and one junior Grand Slam singles title at the 2014 French Open.

Kasatkina rose fast through the professional ranks, reaching No. 32 in the world at the age of 18 and winning her first WTA championship as a youngster at the Charleston Open. She gained to popularity in 2018 after being runner-up to fellow up-and-coming star Naomi Osaka at the Premier Mandatory Indian Wells Open, in a match widely seen as defining a new era of women’s tennis.

She has no children yet.

Kasatkina struggled in 2019 after three great seasons on the WTA Tour, sliding to the bottom half of the top 100. However, she had a comeback in 2021, winning two championships and returning to the top 30.

Kasatkina has an elder brother called Alexandr as well. Her brother had played tennis informally and persuaded her parents to let her start when she was six years old. For the first two years, she played two to three times every week.

Kasatkina has also won the Kremlin Cup and the St. Petersburg Trophy in Russia, two of her career’s most important trophies.
