Danny Gray (born April 1, 1999) is an American football wide receiver for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers (NFL). He attended Blinn and SMU before being picked in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the 49ers.
Gray grew up in Dallas and went to James Madison High School. As a junior, he had 34 catches for 699 yards and 13 touchdowns, as well as 159 yards and three scores on the ground.
Gray, a three-star prospect, chose Missouri over offers from Kansas, Bowling Green, Florida Atlantic, Grambling State, Tulane, Stephen F. Austin, North Texas, and Incarnate Word. He was declared academically ineligible to play at the University of Missouri and did not enroll.
Gray started his undergraduate career at Blinn College to fulfill the academic requirements for Division I football. He caught 15 receptions for 409 yards and six touchdowns as a freshman and was selected first-team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference.
Gray chose TCU over offers from Auburn, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Tennessee for his last two seasons of eligibility during the summer before his sophomore year.
He has 54 catches for 877 yards and eight touchdowns during the season. Gray switched his commitment to SMU during the season.
