Kang was born in San Francisco on October 20, 1992. She grew up in Southern California and qualified for the US Women’s Open when she was 14 years old.
She started her high school education at Oak Park High School and later transferred to Westlake High School early so that she could start college at Pepperdine University in Malibu in the spring of 2010.
Kang made her professional debut in September 2011 at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
She entered using a sponsor’s exemption and failed to make the cut. Kang participated in the 2011 LPGA Qualifying School.
