Danai Jekesai Gurira is a 44-year-old Zimbabwean-American actress and dramatist.
She is best recognized for her appearances as Michonne on AMC’s horror drama series The Walking Dead which aired between 2012 and 2022.

Her motivation for writing plays for theatre stemmed from her desire to tell the story of phenomenal women she admires and respects.
Due to her stellar work as a playwright, she has received commissions to write plays from Yale Repertory Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Playwrights Horizons, and the Royal Court.
A play she co-wrote and performed in earned her an Obie, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Helen Hayes Award for Best Lead Actress.
Gurira’s In the Continuum celebrated World AIDS Day in Zimbabwe in December 2011. The play, which was staged at Harare’s Theatre, told the story of two women navigating the world after contracting HIV.
