Daniel James McKee, a politician and businessman from the United States who was born on June 16, 1951, has been the 76th governor of Rhode Island since March 2021. McKee, a native of Cumberland, Rhode Island, finished both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Harvard Kennedy School.

McKee attended Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts after graduating from Cumberland High School, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and education in 1973. In 2005, he graduated with a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School.

He was a Democrat who served as Rhode Island’s 69th lieutenant governor from 2015 to 2021. From 1992 until 1998, he was a member of the Cumberland town council. From 2000 to 2004 and again from 2006 to 2014, he presided as mayor of Cumberland. 2014 saw the election of McKee as vice governor.

McKee was elected governor of the state in 2021, following Gina Raimondo’s resignation after being chosen the Secretary of Commerce of the United States. He was chosen to serve a full term beginning in 2022.
