Dan Krauss, a two-time Oscar nominee, is working on a Netflix documentary about the 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States, which will feature Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg performing scripted monologues.

The BBC Studios Science Unit’s The Anthrax Attacks will chronicle the narrative of one of the greatest and most difficult FBI investigations in American law enforcement history.

The program will premiere one week after the terrorist events on September 11, 2001, when five people were murdered and at least 17 were injured in what became one of the deadliest biological assaults in US history.

The Anthrax Attacks will feature a mix of interviews and dramatic scenarios based on FBI papers.

Krauss, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the documentaries Extremis and The Death of Kevin Carter, described the subject as “sprawling and massively complex,” requiring an “adventurous approach in our filmmaking.”

“The BBC Studios crew faced the task head-on, addressing every hurdle with outstanding skill and attention.” “On this voyage, I couldn’t have wished for more skilled colleagues,” added Krauss, who is exec producing alongside Science Unit chief Andrew.

Gregg, who played Agent Phil Coulson in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and other Marvel films, plays Dr. Bruce Ivins in scripted sequences and to-camera monologues based on Ivins’ own words, producing a psychological portrait of a man slowly unraveling.
