Dame should resign – Bawah Mogtari

Former President John Mahama’s special aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has called for the resignation of Attorney-General Godfred Dame after being advised by a trial judge to recuse himself from the Ato Forson case. Bawah Mogtari expressed her dissatisfaction with Dame’s actions, stating that his conduct should not be tolerated.

Despite the judge’s advice, Godfred Dame has insisted that he will continue to prosecute the case involving the Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the interest of justice and the public. The trial judge, Justice Efia Serwah Asare-Botwey, had advised Dame to step aside from the ongoing trial.

Lawyers for Ato Forson filed a motion for mistrial, injunction, or stay of proceedings in the ambulance case following allegations made against Godfred Dame by Richard Jakpa. The recorded telephone conversation between Jakpa and Dame has been submitted as evidence in the case.

Ato Forson is requesting a mistrial, claiming that Dame’s conduct is unlawful and aimed at securing his conviction. If the mistrial is not ordered, Forson argues that public confidence in the administration of justice could be severely impacted.

However, Godfred Dame has opposed the application for mistrial, stating that it is not recognized in Ghanaian law. He maintains that he has a constitutional responsibility to prosecute all crimes within the country and cannot be barred from carrying out his duties. Dame argues that no one is immune from prosecution under Ghanaian law and that the motion for mistrial is an attempt to avoid legitimate prosecution for actions that led to significant financial losses for the state.
