On August 9, 1988, Dale Whitnell, an English professional golfer who competes on the European Tour, was born. Whitnell won the 2006 Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championship, launching a prosperous amateur golfing career.
In 2008, he shared the Eisenhower Trophy with Luke Goddard and Sam Hutsby and won the St Andrews Trophy. He was chosen to be a member of the Walker Cup team in 2009. In both 2008 and 2009, the European Amateur Team Championship awarded him a silver medal.
