Dale sadly passed away on September 5, 2022, at his home in Porter Ranch, Calif. due to lung cancer complications. He was 83. His death was confirmed to Variety by his son, David McRaven Jr.

Dale age was 83 years old at the time of his death. He was born on March 15, 1939, in the United States of America.

Dale began his TV writing for The Joey Bishop Show before getting swept up at the Garry Marshall industrial complex. Sheldon Leonard at Desilu Studios reported to him and fellow writer Carl Kleinschmidt that he was going to “change their lives,” and set them up in The Dick Van Dyke Show.

There, they also won the WGA Award for their first script. From there, McRaven worked in TV shows such as The Odd Couple, Gomer Pyle, Bill Dana, and Hey Landlord. McRaven has also co-created Mork & Mindy, the Happy Days spinoff that launched Robin Williams to national fame.

Dale also created the Bronson Pinchot vehicle Perfect Strangers, which ran successfully for eight seasons. McRaven is credited with discovering Williams, Pinchot, Pam Dawber, Mark Hamill, Gary Busey, Bronson Pinchot, Mark Lin-Baker, David Cassidy, Susan Dey, and Danny Bonaduce
