Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, has criticized the presidency for what he believes to be a mistake in a statement outlining changes made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to his government.
The list of central and local government ministers and deputy ministers that President Akufo-Addo had relieved of their duties was contained in the first section of the Office of the President’s statement, designated “A.”
A list of “New Ministerial and Deputy Ministerial Appointments,” comprising “Ministers of State Designate” and “Deputy Ministers of State Designate,” was presented in the second section of the announcement, denoted by the letter “B.”
A list of some of the ministers who were relieved of their responsibilities in “A” and given new ministry assignments may be found in the third section of the announcement, designated “C,” under the heading “Re-assigned Ministers & Deputy Minister of State.”
The affected ministers were Francis Asenso-Boakye, the outgoing Minister of Workers and Housing, Mohammed Amin Adam, the former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, who was reassigned to the position of Minister of Finance, Henry Quartey, the outgoing Regional Minister for Greater Accra, who became the Minister of the Interior, and Highway.
Additionally, outgoing Interior Minister Ambrose Dery was reassigned to the position of Minister of State at the Office of the President; outgoing Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Abdulai Abanga was reassigned to the position of Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development; and outgoing Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was reassigned to the position of Minister of Works and Housing.
On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, Dafeamekpor responded to this in a post uploaded on X, stating that President Akufo-Addo is not allowed to reassign ministers he has dismissed.
Read the MP’s post below:
Art 81 states: “The Office of a Minister of State or a Deputy Minister shall become vacant if (a) his Appointment is Revoked by the President.”
This means the Prez has revoked the appointments of these Ministers. Prez cannot “re-assign” those revoked but ‘re-appoint’ instead pic.twitter.com/4aFXfAAp5j
