The South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, wants the President’s Executive Secretary to be held in contempt of parliament.
The reason for Dafeamekpor’s disagreement with Nana Bediatuo Asante is due to the latter’s correspondence with the Clerk of Parliament on the transfer of the anti-LGBT+ Bill to the president for ratification.
In his reply, Bediatuo stated that the president is unable to ratify the Bill due to two ongoing cases before the Supreme Court for an order of interlocutory injunction against it.
The Attorney General notified President Akufo-Addo about the ongoing legal proceedings and requested that he hold off on taking any further action on the Bill, according to a March 18, 2024, letter from the Attorney General, which was made public by the Secretary to the President on Monday.
However, the National Democratic Congress MP felt that the letter’s tone was inappropriate.
The tone of this letter is arrogant meddling in the Parliament of Ghana’s execution of its tasks, in addition to being disrespectful to the Parliament and its authority. “Nana Bediatuo should be reported for contempt of Parliament,” he stated in an X post that included the aforementioned correspondence.
