A 28-year-old Information Technology specialist, James Kumbeni, recently embarked on a remarkable journey advocating for the adoption of green transport systems.

He rode his bicycle a whopping 815 kilometers from Bolgatanga to Accra, the national capital of Ghana, to raise awareness about the importance of bicycles as a climate-smart and green alternative means of transport.

Kumbeni’s journey, which began on April 9th and concluded on April 12th, was aimed at highlighting the detrimental impact of carbon emissions from fuel-powered vehicles on the environment. He emphasized the need for a paradigm shift to greener transport systems to combat air pollution and promote cleaner air.

In addition to advocating for green transportation, Kumbeni’s initiative also sought to raise awareness about the rights and safety of cyclists on the road. He emphasized the importance of creating dedicated lanes for cyclists during road construction to ensure their safety.

Speaking about the motivation behind his journey, Kumbeni highlighted the urgent need to address the threats of climate change and reduce carbon emissions. He stressed the importance of encouraging more people to ride bicycles for short-distance journeys to contribute to a cleaner environment.

Apart from promoting green transportation, Kumbeni also showed support for Mr. Joel Atinga, who is attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the longest grilling of ‘khebab’ in Accra. He expressed his gratitude to all Ghanaians for their support throughout his journey.

Kumbeni, a teacher from Baare in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, is a member of various cycling associations and is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Computer Science.
