According to the most recent numbers, the number of persons dying from coronavirus in England and Wales has decreased for the fourth week in a row.
According to the Office for National Statistics, 453 COVID-19-related fatalities occurred in the two countries for the week ending August 26th, representing an 18% decrease from the previous week.
This summer saw an increase in new instances of the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of Omicron, and COVID fatalities peaked at 810 for the week ending July 8. They have continued to decline since then.
The summer high, however, was much behind the Alpha record in January, when weekly fatalities topped 8,500.
Figures reveal that the Omicron variation is substantially less likely to cause hospitalisation than prior variants of the virus.
High levels of antibodies, resulting from both natural infection and immunizations, are likely to be responsible for the decrease in fatalities.
Care facility residents, workers, and the homebound will be given another booster shot beginning Monday.
