Corruption fight: Prof. Adei dares EOCO to go after Amoako-Atta

Former GIMPA rector Professor Stephen Adei has challenged the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to pursue former Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta over his allegations of corruption within the ministry.

Adei made this call in response to EOCO’s dismissal of his claims that road contractors had to pay bribes to secure contracts in Ghana. The anti-graft body stated that Adei’s comments were baseless and lacked evidence.

Speaking to TV3, Professor Adei criticized EOCO’s report as a “misplaced priority” and urged them to focus on investigating the allegations made by the former minister instead. He emphasized the need for accountability within the ministry and questioned why there had been no action taken against the individuals implicated in corrupt activities.

Despite EOCO’s findings, Adei stood by his statements and revealed that he had chosen not to disclose the identity of the contractor who informed him about the corruption in order to protect their business from government retaliation. He highlighted the prevalence of corruption in the public sector and expressed disappointment in the lack of scrutiny towards Amoako-Atta’s claims.

In his interview with TV3, Professor Adei called on Ghanaians to hold the former minister accountable for his remarks and emphasized the importance of addressing corruption within the Roads and Highways Ministry.

He criticized the public and the media for failing to demand transparency and urged for a more in-depth investigation into the allegations of corruption within the ministry.
