A police patrol vehicle pursuing criminal suspects in the vicinity plunged into an abandoned mining pit in Kwawu, killing Police General Constable Prince Amoah and injuring three others.
Meanwhile, it was noted that the survivors, thus Martha Ansah (Constable), General Corporal Frederick Cobbinah, the service drive, and General Constable Bright Adinkrah, were rescued by divers in the community and were taken to the nearest health center in Kwahu for cross-medical examinations.
However, according to the police news brief, the victims and deceased were part of the divisional task force team assigned to cover a special inter-school sport and gala competition at Kwawu.
Also, as part of their duties, they were with the same team on patrol exercises and routine tasks.
The team was said to have a leader whose duties, as said, were monitoring the Enchi Ellubo route. They were told of three unregistered motorbikes with suspiciously filthy backpacks on the pillion riders who had failed to stop at the Asemkrom village snap checkpoint and were heading towards Enchi.
Right after they spotted the bikes and tried to stop them, they disregarded the patrol team and proceeded. The team pursued until they took the wrong turn, leading to the aforesaid incidents.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the patrol team tried to reverse the vehicle, unfortunately hitting a damaged bridge known to be called a damaged bridge, causing the car to dive wrongly into the river with all the occupants.
According to reports, the information reached Nana Kabaah II, the chief of Kwawu, and the police officers stationed at the inter-school gala competition.
Drivers responded immediately to rescue the victims and recover the deceased body, which was trapped directly beneath the service vehicle in the river, according to the brief.
Meanwhile, the survivors are currently receiving g-positive treatment at the Samatex Hospital in Samreboi, while the body was also transported to the Enchi government hospital morgue for preservation and autonomy to determine the cause of death.
However, the missing riffles and the service vehicle were recovered.
