President Akufo-Addo is urging African leaders to join forces in the fight against terrorism on the continent.
Speaking at the ECOWAS’ High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, he emphasized the devastating consequences of terrorism and the need for collective action to combat the menace effectively.
Akufo-Addo, the immediate past chairman of ECOWAS, highlighted the importance of tangible steps beyond mere speeches, calling for concrete actions and commitments from all African nations. He stated, “Terrorism remains one of the most significant challenges facing Africa today, destabilising communities, undermining governance structures, and obstructing socio-economic progress.”
The presence of leaders from neighboring countries, including Togo and Nigeria, underscored a shared commitment to working together in the fight against terrorism. Akufo-Addo stressed that no single country can tackle the issue alone and called for unity and full participation from all stakeholders.
As Africa continues to grapple with the scourge of terrorism, it is essential for leaders to prioritize cooperation and collaboration in addressing this critical security challenge.
