IMANI Africa’s founder and president, Franklin Cudjoe, has strongly rejected the comparison between President Akufo-Addo and Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
In a recent interview on Channel One TV, Cudjoe expressed his views on the matter, stating that likening Akufo-Addo to Nkrumah is like “comparing light to darkness.”
Cudjoe pointed out that both Akufo-Addo and Nkrumah have led the country into economic turmoil, but Akufo-Addo, with access to more funds, has driven Ghana deeper into financial crisis.
He criticized the recent statement made by Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who praised Akufo-Addo’s performance and drew comparisons to Nkrumah.
The IMANI Africa president emphasized that every era has its political challenges and that it is essential to learn from past leaders’ mistakes. He highlighted the need for honest comparisons based on facts, stating that both Akufo-Addo and Nkrumah left the economy in a dire state during their tenures.
Furthermore, Cudjoe raised concerns about President Akufo-Addo’s leadership style, noting what he described as “dictatorial tendencies.”
He referenced the controversial case of former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo, who was allegedly forced out of his position against his will. Cudjoe criticized Akufo-Addo for not listening to advice and for exhibiting what he sees as authoritarian behavior.
