The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has decided to call off its industrial action following discussions with government officials.
The strike, which was declared on July 3, was in response to the government’s delay in implementing a new salary structure for CLOGSAG members. The association had reached an agreement with the government for the new salary structure to be implemented in January 2023, but this was delayed for one and a half years.
In a communique to regional members on July 12, CLOGSAG instructed its members to return to work, as the government had shown commitment to resolving the issues at hand. The Office of the Senior Presidential Adviser, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) were all involved in the discussions.
According to the communique, the government acknowledged and committed to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on January 19, 2022. They assured CLOGSAG that the finalization of the Salary Structure would be completed by October 31, 2024, and implemented with effect from January 1, 2025.
As a result of the government’s commitment, CLOGSAG has agreed to call off the strike and resume normal activities.
This decision comes as a relief to both CLOGSAG members and the general public, as the strike had disrupted services across the country. It is hoped that the resolution of this issue will lead to a more harmonious working relationship between CLOGSAG and the government in the future.
