At the Agbogbloshie market in Accra, the Clean Ghana campaign has closed several stores due to unhygienic conditions and made two arrests.
To make sure the market’s maize milling processes complied with the law, the task force conducted inspections.
The crew stated that numerous individuals were not adhering to the rules, forcing them to lock down numerous stores.
“We were here last year, we made some moves, and now we’re back to check on compliance.” Sadly, there weren’t many of them complying when we arrived. In addition to serving seven notices and locking four stores, we also had to make two arrests.
Florence Kuukyi, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s Environmental Health Officer, stated that anybody detained during the inspection would be prepared for court.
She claimed that despite having received a warning from the court, the individuals who were arrested continued to defy the order.
“After the closure and arrest, we will process them for court. We are now going to apply for a summon because it is late and we can’t take them to court now.”
“Those that we arrested, they are not the owners of the property. So we have arrested them to get the owners of the property. As we have locked it, the real owners will come. So when the real owners come, we will get them and process them for court,” she stated.
