Since 2022, Chloe Rebecca Smith has served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. From 2021 to 2022, she was Minister of State for Disabled People, Work, and Health. She has served as the Conservative Party’s Member of Parliament for Norwich North since 2009.
Smith was elected in a by-election in 2009 when Labour MP Ian Gibson resigned in the aftermath of the MPs’ expenses scandal. Smith worked as a junior minister under both David Cameron and Theresa May, including two periods as Parliamentary Secretary for the Constitution. She retained the latter position following Boris Johnson’s victory in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election. During the second Johnson administration, she was elevated to Minister of State in February 2020.
