A prisoner at Accra’s Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who is believed to be a Chinese national, broke free while receiving medical attention.
The prisoner, who was serving a one-year sentence at Nsawam institution, is said to have made up a medical condition that required him to be sent to a hospital outside of the institution. He was led to Accra’s Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
However, it is said that during his medical care, he managed to get away from the jail guards who had accompanied him to the hospital.
Although the Prison Service has not yet provided an official statement on the incident, prison staff members are sharing WhatsApp messages containing the prisoner’s photo and requesting that anyone with knowledge about the convict report it.
The prisoner was taken into custody in Tema, put through a legal trial, and sentenced to one year in prison, which he was serving at Nsawam Prison.
According to reports, he is on trial for alleged criminal offenses in another case.
According to Graphic Online, an investigation is presently underway into the actions of the officials who oversaw the prisoner.
