Children aged 6 to 14 will soon be able to access essential healthcare services as they will be registered and issued with Ghana Cards starting from June 10.
This initiative, a joint effort between the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the National Identification Authority (NIA), aims to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and ensure national identity documentation for Ghanaian youth.
Dedicated registration centers will be set up in schools nationwide to facilitate the registration process. The goal is to improve children’s access to essential healthcare services and enable their participation in various socio-economic activities that require official identification.
During the signing ceremony, the NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, emphasized the government’s commitment to streamlining administrative processes and expanding social service reach. He highlighted the significance of inclusive healthcare and youth recognition within the registration drive.
The NIA Executive Secretary, Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, underscored the Ghana card’s importance as a fundamental tool for identity authentication and access to public services. He noted that issuing Ghana cards to children aged 6 to 14 will safeguard their rights and enable their full participation in society.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that their children are registered to receive the Ghana card, securing their access to essential healthcare services and official identification. This initiative represents a pivotal step in promoting inclusive healthcare and ensuring the rights and recognition of Ghana’s youth population.
