Child pulled from Greenwood pond dies at hospital
At Riley Hospital for Children, the second girl is still in serious condition.
Two girls were recovered from a retention pond in the 1200 block of Edgewater Drive in the Clear Brook subdivision shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Chad Tatman of the Greenwood Fire Department. That’s southwest of the U.S. 31/West Smith Valley Road interchange.
When two Greenwood firefighters and two Greenwood police officers plucked the girls from the water, Tatman wasn’t sure if they were conscious.
According to Tatman, state conversation officers took over the inquiry because the event occurred in a body of water.
Tatman said neighbors called 911 to report five individuals in the pond, but by the time officials arrived, three of them had departed.
The two girls were separated from a group playing in the water, according to Natural Resources, and did not resurface.
The pond has a depth of 15 feet.
