Charlie Hill, the first Native American entertainer to debut on national television, was recognized by Google with a Doodle on what would have been his 71st birthday.

He was born on July 6, 1951 and died on December 30, 2013 as a result of  lymphoma cancer.

Hill refused to conform to racial preconceptions of Native Americans when he was a young comic in the 1970s.

Instead, his writings addressed historical discrimination towards Native Americans, specifically targeting White viewers, the forcible eviction of native people, and even the negative impact of Christopher Columbus and the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock.

Hill made history by being the first Native American stand-up comedian to appear on national television. Charlie Hill, who is of Oneida, Mohawk, and Cree descent, has risen to the humorous foreground.

He was also among the first entertainers to publicly criticize Native stereotypes on important talk show shows in the United States of America.

Spouse and Children

Charlie Hill wed Lenora Hatathlie in 1980 and they had four kids, namely: Dine ’Nizhoni Hill, Nasbah Hill, Nanabah Hill, and Nabahe Hill.

Parents and Siblings
