Charlie Dior, the self-proclaimed fashion critic and controversial social media celebrity, has sent a strong warning to anybody who tag him in posts about the parliament’s ratification of the anti-gay measure.
A few days ago, Parliament passed a penalty of three to five years in prison to advance LGBTQ+ rights.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ (LGBTQ+) community faces a minimum of three (3) years and a maximum of five (5) years jail sentence approved by Ghana’s Parliament for willful promotion, sponsorship, or support of such acts.
This includes giving anyone who assist, facilitate, encourage, or promote LGBTQ activities a jail sentence of no more than six months.
Sam George, a co-sponsor of the measure, put forth the amendment because he thinks that, once the law is approved, severe penalties are required to guarantee that it is followed.
If found guilty of encouraging LGBTQ activities, persons in violation of the modified measure, which is still being considered, might get a minimum term of three months and a maximum sentence of six months, or a fine ranging from GH₵600 to GH₵1200.
In response, Charlie Dior said that everyone will be impacted by the bill, not just members of the alphabet group.
