
Charles Gatt was a Maltese guitarist and jazz pioneer. He was known as Malta’s Father of Jazz.
Gatt was born in Zebbieg in August 1944 and later trained to become a teacher and taught art at St Michael’s College between 1968 and 1975.
He was the driving force behind the establishment of the Malta Jazz Festival, acting as its musical director for over 15 years. He also oversaw Malta’s music school for a decade.
He has died at the age of 77.
