The results of the primary elections on August 23 have been certified by the Florida Elections Canvassing Commission. State officials claim that the primaries proceeded without a hitch, but they are still discussing the work that has to be done for the newly established Office of Election Crimes and Security.
Following a brief meeting of the canvassing commission on Thursday, Secretary of State Cord Byrd told reporters that Florida is one of the nation’s leader in elections and election integrity claiming that the just-ended primaries were quite successful.
However, there were a number of complaints of voter suppression in areas like Alachua Coacccunty, where some of the 64 precincts ran out of Republican votes while voters waited in line.
According to Byrd, there are complaints filed at every election, some of which are official and others of which are informal. He did assure voters that there will be an investigation into each one to see whether it merits further inquiry.
