Coughlan rose to prominence as the singer and songwriter for Microdisney, along with Sean O’Hagan. After forming in Cork four decades ago, the duo moved to London, expanded to a five-piece, and released five albums for Rough Trade Records and then Virgin Records.
While commercial success eluded the band, they received praise from critics, with their 1985 album (The Clock Comes Down The Stairs) debuting at number one on the UK independent charts.
Cathal’s family members are set to release a statement in the course of the week detailing his burial grounds, the date and time of his memorial, and final funeral rites.
