Casper Rudd, the No. 8 seed, was steady for most of the match, but he came up with the risky winner when he needed it to win the Paris major on Friday evening.
His first Grand Slam semifinal had not gone as planned for the better part of two sets. Marin Cilic, his opponent, had taken the initiative in the early going, winning the first set (6-3).

Unlike Ruud, Cilic had reached this stage of a major tournament half a dozen times in his 16-year career, and it showed. The 33-year-old was stepping onto the court and playing proactive tennis, while Ruud, 23, couldn’t get out of his defensive crouch behind the baseline.
However, he carried the day at long last and he is scheduled to face his childhood idol, Rafael Nadal. This fixture will be a daunting task for the young Norwegian, who grew up idolizing his role model.
Rudd is now being sought after yesterday’s match, and questions have been raised about his lovely girlfriend Maria Galligani.
Galligani holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bjorkness College and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the same field at the University of Denmark-Syddansk.
