Casey White, a prisoner, has been accused with murdering his lover, corrections officer Vicky White, after she assisted him in escaping and the two led police on an 11-day manhunt.
Vicky, 56, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to authorities.
Casey, 38, has been charged with Vicky’s murder, but the indictment makes no mention of him shooting her.
On April 29, Vicky assisted the convicted felon’s escape, and the two utilized disguises and swapped automobiles across three states before being apprehended in Evansville, Indiana.
According to a 911 call made from inside the Cadillac that Casey and Vicky used to flee, she shot herself after the automobile crashed and partially rolled over.
According to court filings, Casey has been charged with first-degree escape “and in the course and furtherance of committing escape in the first degree, caused the death of Vicky White, who died from a gunshot wound to the head.”
Casey’s trial date has not yet been set.
Casey had previously been convicted of attempted murder and robbery after attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend and abduct her housemates, and he was serving a 75-year prison sentence at the time of the prison break.
