Clark earned her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College despite being born in New York City and reared in Washington Township, Bergen County, New Jersey. Clark started retyping her mother’s transcripts while she was in college. In addition, Clark changed the names of individuals and places. Of his four siblings, only Clark pursued a career as a writer.
The younger Higgins Clark seized the chance to become acquainted with the writing a book and telling stories process as Mary Higgins Clark struggled to balance a full-time work and trying to finish her second book, unaware that this would be her start in becoming a well-known author.
Clark wrote thrillers, much like her mother. The fact that Clark’s works have a tiny sense of humor while her mother’s don’t distinguishes the writing of the mother and daughter. Regan Reilly, a well-known recurrent character, narrative lines involving male escorts, and pantyhose customs are all present in all of her works. In a video she made for NJN Public Television, Clark describes how her first employment experience gave her inspiration for her book. Clark utilizes a lady who works at a dry cleaner in her book “Iced”. Evidence is discovered by the lady in a customer’s pockets.
