Faress was born in 1948 to Irish and Syrian parents in Accra, Ghana. She was born in Southport, Lancashire, raised in London, where she now resides after graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since around 2004, she has been experimenting with playwriting as a medium. Faress successfully completed a writing course at City Literary Institute. Her other talents include yoga, cricket, horseback riding, and dancing.

It was revealed in October 2014 that Faress would appear in Sharon Wood’s translation of Dacia Maraini’s Passi Affrettati, titled Hurried Steps. The play’s narratives, which covered topics like rape, honour murders, sex trafficking, and other forms of violence against women, were primarily taken from Amnesty International.

In Casualty, she portrayed Jay Faldren’s grandmother, Maryam Shakiba, from 2010 to 2011. Faress appeared as Anji Mittel’s aunt Di in an episode of the popular nursing drama No Angels. Faress made a brief appearance as a hospital doctor in “The Dead of Jericho,” the first episode of Inspector Morse.
