Faress was born in 1948 to Irish and Syrian parents in Accra, Ghana. She was born in Southport, Lancashire, raised in London, where she now resides after graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since around 2004, she has been experimenting with playwriting as a medium. Faress successfully completed a writing course at City Literary Institute. Her other talents include yoga, cricket, horseback riding, and dancing.

Faress made a brief appearance as a hospital doctor in “The Dead of Jericho,” the first episode of Inspector Morse.
