She was living in Toronto, Canada. She died in her Toronto home.

Was Candy Palmater a lawyer?

Palmater started her career as a lawyer. She attended Dalhousie Law School in Halifax and became the first aboriginal law student to be major in class.

She then gave up her legal career and went to work for the Nova Scotia Department of Education.

Candy was asked in an interview earlier this year about why she wanted to be a lawyer and this is what she had to say.

“I’ve always been the kind of person who likes to speak up for people who don’t have a voice, and to right wrongs when I see them. I naively thought that’s what being a lawyer was about.”
