Calvin John Williams Jr., who was born on March 3, 1967, is a former professional American football player who spent seven seasons playing for teams in the National Football League (NFL).
In the fifth round of the NFL Draft in 1990, Williams was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles to play for their team.
After selecting Mike Bellamy and Fred Barnett prior to him in the draft, the Eagles selected him as their third wide receiver. Williams, who was just entering the league for the first time in 1990, defeated Mike Quick in training camp to earn the starting wide receiver position that Cris Carter had previously occupied. Williams played alongside Quick.
Williams went on to break the team record for most touchdown receptions by a rookie, which had previously been held by Bobby Walston and was set in 1951. Williams finished with nine touchdowns. He was honored with a spot on Football News’ All-First Team after posting 37 receptions for 602 yards during his rookie season. Williams’ performance was impressive enough to earn him the title of NFC Offensive Player of the Week. His career-high 63 receptions in 1995 helped him lead the team to victory.
