Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament representing South Dayi, has made it clear that he will not back down in his legal battle against Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem, the former Controller and Accountant-General. Bosompem recently resigned from his position, effective as of Monday, April 15, 2024.

The MP had initially filed a lawsuit against Bosompem in January, questioning his eligibility to participate in the NPP parliamentary primary for the Akim Swedru constituency. Despite Bosompem’s resignation, Dafeamekpor is determined to see the case through to the apex court for a final decision on the matter.

In an interview, Dafeamekpor expressed his belief that Bosompem’s resignation was long overdue and should have happened before he contested in the NPP primaries last year. He emphasized the importance of clarifying whether a person holding a statutory office like Controller and Accountant-General can engage in partisan politics while still in office.

While Bosompem’s resignation could potentially impact the case, Dafeamekpor is committed to seeking a verdict on the matter to contribute to the legal understanding of such situations. This determination reflects similar cases in the past, such as the removal of Domelevo, where legal proceedings continued despite the individual leaving their position.

Dafeamekpor’s resolve to pursue this legal battle showcases his dedication to upholding accountability and legality within the government sector. This case highlights the intersection of politics and civil service roles, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of such positions.
