The most prominent music awards ceremony in the United Kingdom, the BRIT Awards, has nominated three Nigerian afrobeat superstars: Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema.
Rema’s “Calm Down” was nominated in the much-sought-after International Song of the Year category, while Burna Boy and Asake were in the star-studded International Artist of the Year category.
The pair will compete against international superstars like Miley Cyrus, SZA, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Lanarkshire Del Rey, CMAT, and Caroline Polachek in the International Artist of the Year category.
In the International Song of the Year competition, “Calm Down” will compete against such worldwide singles as “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish, “Paint The Town Red” by Doja Cat, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, “Kill Bill” by SZA, “People” by Libianca, “People” by Cameroonian diva, and “Water” by Tyla from South Africa.
With seven nominations overall, Raye tops the field for the 2024 Brit Awards, becoming the first artist to receive seven nominations in a single year. The Brit Awards 2024 are slated to air on ITV1 and ITVX on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
