Ghanaian footballer Bernard Tekpetey is in talks with the Bulgarian Federation about potentially switching nationalities to play for their team, he revealed in an interview on Joy FM.

Tekpetey, who has been playing for Ludogorets in the Bulgarian top flight for the past four seasons, has only made two appearances for the Ghanaian national team, both during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite his limited appearances for the Black Stars, Tekpetey has been in excellent form this season, scoring a total of 15 goals in all competitions.

This puts him second in goals scored among all the players selected for Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in June, with only Mohammed Kudus ahead of him with 18 goals.

The 26-year-old disclosed that he possesses a Bulgarian passport, which would allow him to make the switch in nationality. However, he mentioned that he needs to discuss the potential decision with his family first, especially his mother who he believes would be upset if he were to switch allegiances.

Despite his mother’s wishes for him to play for the Ghana national team, Tekpetey is keeping calm and focusing on his game while he considers his options for the future.
