In the course of a fire at Westland in West Legon, a building collapsed on firemen, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The incident happened on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, when fire service personnel attempted to put out a strong fire, according to the GNFS.
This was stated in a press release on Thursday, January 25, that was signed and issued by Timothy Osafo-Affum, the GNFS Director of Public Relations.
Four firefighters were hurt during the operation, according to the statement. At the University of Ghana Medical Center, two of them were in severe condition and were sent to the Medifem hospital, where they are presently receiving care. The other firefighters rushed them to the West Legon Hospital, where they are presently receiving treatment, after saving their fellow comrades.
Although the other two cops received minor injuries as well, they were treated and released. In the statement, GNFS added that they have started an inquiry to determine what caused the structure to fall.
The public is urged to report any fire accidents to the GNFS as soon as they occur and to exercise caution and vigilance when it comes to fire safety, particularly during the dry season.
Numerous users complimented the firemen for their bravery and sacrifice while offering their condolences and prayers.
In addition, several users demanded increased government regulation and enforcement in response to their criticisms of the subpar building supplies and the absence of fire safety precautions in the region.
