Born on January 10, 1996, Bishard “Budda” Baker plays safety for the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals. In the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cardinals selected him from Washington, where he played college football.
In Bellevue, Washington, Baker attended Bellevue High School. He ran track in addition to playing safety and running back in football. He received the Seattle Times High School Athlete of the Year honor as a senior. One of the top safeties in his class, Baker was rated as a four-star prospect. Prior to National Signing Day, he switched his collegiate football commitment from the University of Oregon to the University of Washington.
Baker participated in the NFL Combine and finished all the positional drills. At Washington’s Pro Day, he took part but merely ran positional exercises for more than 50 scouts and representatives of NFL teams. Most NFL draft gurus and analysts thought Baker would go in the second round. Although his performance impressed teams, they were concerned that his lack of size might limit his potential to play in the NFL.
