On vacation in Greece, a British man was killed by a helicopter tail rotor. His name has been released.

Jack Fenton, a student at Oxford Brookes University, approached the back of the plane in Spata, which is close to Athens, unaware that the propeller was still whirling.

The 22-year-old may have “broken away” from his group after being shown to a private lounge and returned to the runway to take a selfie, according to investigators.

According to Ioannis Kandyllis, head of Greece’s commission for aviation accidents looking into the incident, “all four passengers had disembarked and were brought to a private lounge awaiting a private flight for London.”

After a trip from Mykonos, it was initially thought that Jack’s parents were in another helicopter headed toward the same location, but it was later discovered that he had been on vacation with friends.

Three people have now been detained by police in connection with the tragedy that occurred last night at around 6.20 p.m.

According to a state news source, the pilot and two helipad ground crew members were detained for interrogation and will appear before a public prosecutor later today.
