Ben Gregory, a British decathlete, was seriously injured in a bike accident over the weekend and is now in a critical condition.
According to his partner Naomi Heffernan, the Welsh athlete, 31, has several brain hemorrhages and a shattered skull and neck.
Gregory has participated in three Commonwealth Games as a representative of Great Britain and for Wales: in Delhi in 2010, Glasgow in 2014, and Gold Coast in 2013.
Since then, he has worked as a coach and personal trainer.
Former world champion hurdler Dai Greene, a member of the British athletics elite, has given Gregory his best wishes, calling him “one of the nicest and most optimistic guys I’ve had the opportunity to be around at the track.”
Gregory apparently took part in another bike accident in October 2020, although he averted major harm.
According to WalesOnline, he hit a car in London during that incident.
Gregory was dubbed the “best ever decathlete” by Welsh Athletics.
In a statement, the organization said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Ben’s friends and family during this difficult time.
