Brett Rypien is a Canadian-American quarterback who plays for the National Football League’s Denver Broncos. Rypien attended Boise State before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Broncos in 2019. Rypien is Mark Rypien’s nephew.

The Broncos averaged more than 50 points per game in Rypien’s first three starts for Boise State, and Rypien averaged more than 300 yards and eight touchdowns in each contest.

In his sixth start, against the UNLV Rebels, Rypien set the Boise State freshman record for most passing yards in a game, besting Kellen Moore’s previous mark of 414 yards with 469 yards of his own. The following game, Rypien broke his own record by passing for 506 yards against the New Mexico Lobos.

Rypien’s first month of the season was filled with highs and lows. Off the field, Rypien lost both of his grandmothers, but on the field, he led the Broncos to a 5-0 start and was named Mountain West Conference offensive player of the week after throwing for 391 yards and five touchdowns in the first half against New Mexico.
